The Celeta (like the Barbuta) is a member of the Bacinet family of helms. It compares in many ways with the Barbuta, but is of a later fashion. It originated in Italy around 1400, by 1450 it was extremely popular amongst European armies. This one is based on the Celeta helmet from around 1440, displayed in the Wallace collection, London. It has an adjustable leather liner and and robust chinstrap, which is even finished with a period-accurate brass buckle. The interior is painted with rust-proof paint. Our Celeta is of a generous size, and will fit anybody with a hat size of up to 62 - people who take smaller hat-saizes (56-59) will be able to get an arming cap beneath this. These types of helmets are a joy to wear, being comfortable and giving solid coverage to the majority of the head, yet without giving any restriction to the wearer's vision and breathing.
