A very elegant and striking pendant. The stag was a regular subject of medieval art, it being associated with the Biblical King David and Richard II. When a herd of deer must cross a river to find food, the strongest stag will try the crossing first to see if it is safe for the herd to cross. Then he will return to assist, guide and encourage the rest to traverse the river. This noble and brave quality of the stag was said to have made it emblematic for knights and kings.
