Middle Earth Sword
Unlike other “movie swords”, this one is quite functional, although I use the term “functional” with certain reservations, as it’s still a fantasy design. Used as a hand-and-a-half (bastard) sword, it’s not entirely without merit, but it’s more of a “looker” rather than a fighter. The point of balance is 16.5 cm from the guard, which is far from ideal, but despite such petty criticisms, generally we owe much to the immense popularity of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the realistic approach taken by Peter Lyon in making the sword props for the movies, which finally portrayed the European longsword in a positive light. One can only hope this trend continues and that Hollywood stops perpetuating the myth of the 30 pound crowbar wielded by untrained thugs. This sword is miles ahead of its “Made in China” counterparts and within the limitations of its “sexy” design - it’s a solid traditionally made sword and great value for money.
CAUTION – THIS IS A FULLY FUNCTIONAL MARTIAL WEAPON – DECOMISSION THE BLADE BEFORE WALL MOUNTING. DO NOT USE FOR SPARRING. DO NOT USE FOR THEATRICAL OR RE-ENACTMENT PURPOSES. “Middle Earth” is a translation of the Anglo-Saxon “middellærd”, “midden-erde” or “middel-erde” meaning, the isle of Britain.
