Forever associated with Spain and the conquistadors, the morion helmet was in fact popular throughout mid to late 16th century Europe. The design was very effective, especially against sword cuts from cavalry, which would be deflected away from the wearer. It was also designed to not get in the way when firing a harquebus or matchlock fired on a fork rest.
The morion came in various designs, ours is a reproduction of the most classic form of morion: with a rounded skull, a tall comb which reaches from front to rear and a curved brim that sweeps up into pointed ends. Made from twenty gauge steel, it will fit up to a hat size 62. It has an adjustable internal suspension liner and two heavy duty armoured chinstraps. Each cheak is protected by five overlapping flexible steel lames.
