Brief Overview:
Spaulders are pieces of armour in a harness of plate armour. Typically, they were a single plate of steel or iron covering the shoulder with bands (lames) joined by straps of leather or rivets. By the 1450s however, they were often attached to the upper cannon or rerebrace, a feature that continued into the 16th century.
These weigh approximately 1.3 kilos. They are comfortable and allow for totally unhindered movement. They buckle onto one of our female gorgets. If you already own a gorget with single shoulder straps that are not wider than 2.1cm, then these pauldrons should also attach. Some breastplates also have straps for pauldrons. There is an additional buckled leather strap at the bottom, which wraps around the arm.
